Germaine J. (Remacle) Lussier, 94, of Somerset, widow of Francis R. Lussier, passed away on Sunday, February 9 ^th , 2020, at Clifton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Somerset. Born in Huy, Belgium, a daughter of the late Valentin and Maria (Dahmen) Remacle, she lived in Somerset most of her life.

During World War II, Germaine survived the German invasion and four-year occupation of Belgium. In October 1944, she volunteered to be an interpreter for the United States Army shortly after it liberated her hometown of Elsenborn. Fluent in English, German, and French, she served as an Interpreter and Intelligence Agent with the G-5 Section, 28 ^th Infantry Division as they fought their way into Germany. Her combat experience included the Battles of the Bulge, the Hurtgen Forest, and Colmar Pocket.

In 1948 she emigrated to the United States with the support of her former commanding officer who cited her bravery under fire, high moral character, and devotion to duty while in the service of the U.S. Army. Germaine's war experiences made her sensitive to global events and she continued to read international news in three languages into her final years.

A pretty good seamstress, who would make clothes for her young family back in the day, Germaine was an especially gifted knitter. She used to knit sweaters for sale, with her own unique patterns. She enjoyed volunteering for the Girl Scouts, teaching them to knit, and knitting lap blankets to donate for patients at local hospitals.

She is survived by: 9 children, Christine Fagan (husband James) of Taunton, Brenda Patten (husband Paul) of Somerset, Edward Lussier (wife Allyson) of Oregon, Peter Lussier (wife Debbie) of Swansea, Clare Gosselin (late husband Stan) of Rehoboth, Michelle Lussier of California, Philip Lussier of Somerset, Audrey Carr of Somerset, and Thomas Lussier (wife Donna) of California; 2 sisters, Maria Jose Remacle and Madelaine Gentges; 23 grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Daniel, Matthew & James Fagan, Audrey, Jennifer & Thomas Patten, Samantha Parks, Mackenzie & Kyle Lussier, Lauren Horton, Jennifer, Amanda & Rachel Lussier, Max, Sam & Sadie Gosselin, Mia Lussier & Jessica Kilkus, Ryan & Molly Carr, and Thomas Lussier; 10 great grandchildren, Kayli, Colton, Rylie, Aubrielle, Kevin, Eli, Raiden & Rowen Fagan, Rylie Neville, and Irena Taskos; several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Marie Therese, Valy, Leonie, Elizabeth, and Leon, and grandmother of the late Kevin Fagan.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, February 13th, in St. Thomas More Church followed by a private burial.
