Gil S. DeMelo, age 86, of Fall River, husband of Maria E. (Tavares) DeMelo, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Manuel Soares DeMelo and the late Mariana (Raposo) DeMelo, he emigrated to Fall River in 1980 and was employed in the local textile industry for many years.

He loved music, playing the accordion, being with his wife and family, and visiting his homeland of St. Michael.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: seven children, Jose Melo of Fall River, Noemia Benavides (husband Carlos) of Dartmouth, David de Melo (wife Cidalia) of Fall River, Ana Resendes (husband Manuel) of Fall River, Nelia Silva (husband Valdemiro) of Dartmouth, Lucia Raposo (husband Antonio) of Dartmouth, and Tiberio T. Melo (wife Frances) of Fall River; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. One of thirteen siblings, Gil was brother to Manuel, Maria, Antonio, Mariano, Ernesto, Jose, Dinis, Leonildo, Rodesia, Ismeria, Natalia, and Isaura – some of whom predeceased him.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, July 23rd, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
