Gilbert Amarantes, 79, of Fall River, former husband of Claudia (Munroe) Petres, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Morton Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late John Amarantes, Sr. and the late Gloria (Cambra) Labarre.

Prior to his retirement, he was a laborer in the construction industry for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where, in his youth, served as an Altar boy. An avid Boston Bruins fan, he also loved motorcycles, country music, and hunting. But most importantly, Gil enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

He leaves: his children, Trisha Amarantes Snitzer and her husband, Lee, Gilbert Amarantes of Little Compton, Claudia Amarantes Choquette and her husband, Kevin, of Somerset and Cynthia Tansey Burke; his grandchildren, Erica Mello, Erin Snitzer, Crystal Rogers, and Tiffany Choquette; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Amarantes, Brayden Rogers, Robert Connors, Juliana Camacho, and Jayden Sanchez;  sisters, Margaret Barboza and Constance DeMello; brothers, John Amarantes, Albert Amarantes, and Manuel Amarantes; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the grandfather of the late Kathleen Snitzer and brother of the late Robert Amarantes, James Amarantes, and Lorraine Silvia.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Gilbert was laid to rest on Wednesday, May 27th, with a private committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
