Gilbert Mello, 83, of Fall River, husband of the late Marcelina (Amaral) Mello, passed away following a long illness, on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores. Gilbert was a son of the late Adorico Melo and the late Maria do Espirito Santo (Mota) Melo.

Prior to retirement, Gilbert worked at the local textile company, Quaker Fabric. He was a member of the Holy Name Society.

He leaves his children, Linda M. DeSousa and her husband Joao Luis, of Swansea, Helena Hansen and her husband James, of Fall River, and Nancy Currier (late husband Mark), of Fall River; seven grandchildren, Sharon Currier, Jennifer Daener, Melinda Hansen, Melanie Hansen, James Hansen, Monique Platt and Amanda Lopes; six great-grandchildren, Quentin, Joshua, Jayden, Brooklyn, Liam, and Evelyn; siblings, Oliver DeMelo, of Westport and Odorico DeMelo, of Nevada. Gilbert was predeceased by his son Gilbert L. Mello, and his siblings, Octavio DeMelo and Eduarda M. Costa.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Calling Hours to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

His Funeral will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 9:00am from the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St, Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered in Espirito Santo Church at 10:00 am. Committal Service and interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
