Obituary

Gilberta Medeiros Carreiro Cabral, 84, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Gilberta was the rock of our family—our heart, our guiding light, and a constant source of unconditional love. She devoted her life to caring for those she loved and created a home where everyone always felt welcome.

She adored her grandchildren, and they adored her just as deeply. Spending time with them brought her endless joy, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.

Gilberta's favorite pastime was cooking for her family. She expressed her love through every meal she prepared, bringing everyone together around the table with her warmth and generosity. She also found great joy in her garden, where she lovingly cared for her flowers and took great pride in growing fresh vegetables. Gardening brought her peace and happiness, and she loved watching everything she planted flourish. Whether she was sharing a meal she had prepared or vegetables she had grown, caring for others was simply who she was.

When she wasn't surrounded by family, her favorite place to be was Florida, where she loved relaxing by the pool, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying each day. She treasured every opportunity to visit her siblings there, spending countless hours talking, laughing, and reminiscing about the memories they shared throughout their lives. Those visits brought her tremendous joy, and Florida always felt like a second home.

Gilberta began her career working for the school department in Fazenda Nordeste before immigrating to the United States with her family in 1974. She later worked for many years as a machine operator. She was also an exceptionally talented seamstress, creating beautiful flags for the Holy Ghost.

Gilberta was born to Teresa Medeiros Carreiro and Jose Almeida Carreiro and was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Valdomiro Raposo Cabral; and her siblings, Louisa Pimental, Antero Carreiro, Ligia Carreiro, and Antone Carreiro.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jose Cabral and his wife, Maria; Lucia Jeronimo and her husband, Michael; Carlos Cabral and his wife, Natercia; Mario Cabral and his wife, Helen; Luis Cabral and his wife, Beth; and Teresa Cabral.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Joey, Jason, Kyle, Melinda, Tiffany, Ashley, Allison, Tanisha, Brendan, Neil, Amanda, Justin, and Camryn; 14 beloved great-grandchildren; her brother, Carlos Carreiro; her sister, Ligia Bettencourt; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Gilberta's legacy of love, kindness, strength, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
