Obituary

Gilberta Raposo, 84, of Fall River, wife of the late Serafim D. Raposo, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose Medeiros and the late Maria (Mateus) Medeiros.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. She loved cooking, baking, and traveling to Canada and Portugal to visit family. A devout Catholic, she faithfully attended Mass and was always willing and eager to help anyone in need. But what Gilberta enjoyed most was spending quality time with family.

She leaves her loving children, Gabriel Raposo of Fall River, Goretti Tavares and her husband, Albert, of Swansea, and Loriann Falardo and her husband, Jose, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada; her grandchildren, Andrew Tavares and his fiancé, Alex, and Joseph Falardo; her two sisters, Conceicao Chaves (late husband, Manuel) of Somerset and Serafina Cabral of Westport; brothers, Anibal Medeiros (late wife, Mona) of Somerset, Mario Medeiros and his wife, Elizabeth, of Swansea, and Edwin Medeiros of Ponta Delgada, Azores; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Jose Medeiros, Maria dos Anjos Reis, and Manuel Medeiros.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, April 28th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of this pandemic or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website (www.silvafaria.com) and not through a third party. Thank you!
