Gilberto O.
Martins
d. Feb 16, 2022
Gilberto O. Martins, 59, of Swansea, former husband of Maria (Bonanca) Moniz, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in the comforts of his home following a brief illness. Born in Feteiras de Sul, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Oliveira Martins and the late Maria Jesus (Elias) Martins.
Prior to his early retirement, due to illness, he worked for Narragansett Improvement Company of Rhode Island for many years. An avid New England sports fan, especially of soccer (Benfica his favorite), he also loved fishing, cruises, and trips to Disney. He was a long-time member Our Lady of Light Band Club where he enjoyed socializing with his friends. But most notably, Gilberto was a very hard worker, provided well for his family, and cherished the time he spent with all of them. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his loving daughter, Ashley Amaral and her husband, Michael, of Swansea; his granddaughters, Emma Amaral and Amelia Amaral; one sister, Filomena Couto and her husband, Jose, of Fall River; his brothers, Ramiro Martins and his wife, Gilda, Jose Martins and his wife, Dorvalina, and Daciel Oliveira and his wife, Idalina, all of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his granddaughter's dog "Chase" that he adored and loved as his own. He was the brother of the late Maria Cabral and the late David Martins.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, February 25th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
