Gilda C. Barbosa, age 83, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River. She was the widow of Antonio Barbosa. Born in the village of Agua Retorta, on the island of St Michael in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel T. Cabral and the late Nicolina (Bento) Cabral. When she was a child her family moved to the city of Ponta Delgada and she continued to reside in the Azores for thirty-five years. In 1967 she immigrated to the United States, settling in Fall River. She was employed for many years in the garment trade of this city as a presser at the former Samesta Manufacturing Co on Hartwell Street. Gilda was a communicant of the Good Shepard Parish Church, a parishioner of the former Our Lady of the Angels Church and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, now UNITE. Surviving family members include her four children; Jose "Zacka" Barbosa and his wife Cathy, Fatima Simao and her husband Jose, Filomena do Rego and her husband Luis, and Anna Andrade and her husband Ernesto, all of Fall River, a brother, Daniel Cabral of Fall River, four sisters, Maria Raymond, Encarnacao Domingos, Madeline Teixeira and Adeline Cordeiro, all of Fall River, fifteen grandchildren; Joey, Brian, Kathy, Jo-ann, Bruce, Michael, Scott, Jason, Joshua, Lisa, Debby, Maggie, Timmy, Brandon and Jordan, eleven great grandchildren; Christopher, Stephanie, Emilio, Kayla, Nicholas, Brett, Tori, Jade, Justin, Brody and Karter, and two great great grandchildren; Kobe and Alandria, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Izekiel Cabral, Veneranda De Souza, Manuel Cabral and Luis Cabral. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at Good Shepard Parish Church.
