Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Gilda C. ("Manica" Viveiros) Viveiros , 93, of Fall River. Widow of Duarte P. Viveiros, 64 years of marriage, she passed away peacefully at the Catholic Memorial Home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after a long illness. Born in Pico Vermelho da Ajuda da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Maria da Conceicao (Mateus) DeViveiros.

A homemaker most of her life, Gilda had also worked at Providence Pile, and in addition to her children she raised many of her grandchildren, as well as children of local families who needed help. Our mother was passionate in her faith and love of family. Her Sunday dinners were for all, with cooking talents that we all truly have missed over the years. Gilda was a skilled crocheter, as well, who spent many untold hours lost to her craft.

Our mother was also a healer, through use of herbs and chiropractic knowledge. She healed many folks over the years who would make their way to our home on the third floor with great difficulty, as many could hardly climb the stairs with the injuries and ailments they suffered. Soon after Gilda's healing, they would be able to walk with glee. Our mother enthusiastically enjoyed all aspects of life: farming, caring for animals, taking long rides, and Sunday trips to Fogland beach in Tiverton where, with fear of the ocean, Gilda would only dip her toes.

She is survived by: her children, Duarte Viveiros and his wife Connie of North Dartmouth, Odalia Oliveira and her husband Joao of the Azores, Ana Raposa and her husband Arthur of Fall River, Antonio Viveiros and his wife Helen of Swansea, Jorge Viveiros and his wife Armanda of the Berkshires, Brigida Viveiros of Dartmouth, and Joao Viveiros and his wife Kimberly of Somerset; her daughter-in-law, Helen Viveiros, wife of her predeceased son, Raimundo; grandchildren, Kevin, Derek, Kenny, Steven, Stacey, Ariana, Manuel, Jason, Peter, and Eric; great-grandchildren, Ava, Logan, Wilson, Emily, Brea, Haven, Amelia, Mia, Luca, and Lorenco; many nieces and nephews. Gilda was also predeceased by all her siblings, Manuel, Maria, Helena, Jose, and Antonio.

The family extends deep gratitude to the staff at the Catholic Memorial Home for the compassionate care that was provided Gilda during her stay.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, December 17th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
