Obituary

Gladys (Ciullo) Durand, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on on October 30, 2009 after a brief illness. She would have celebrated her 96th birthday on Nov. 9th. She was the widow of Lucien Durand. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Vito and Elenora (Mortucci) Ciullo. During WWII, she worked in a munitions factory that manufactured hand grenades. She also worked for many years in the local garment industry and was a member of the ILGWU. She was a frequent caller to local radio stations, and was known for playing her kazoo on the Lou Perreira Show. Her greatest asset was her sense of humor. Gladys is survived by a son, Edward J. Durand of New Bedford; sisters, Carmella "Ella" Lanni of Warwick, RI and Margaret DiPalma of Fall River; 3 great grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also mother of the late Dora Sokoll and sister of the late Jerry Ciullo, Alfred Ciullo, Rose McNulty and Vera Souza. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary Cathedral. Pallbearers Dominic and Michael Picozzi, Timmy McNulty, Chris Correira and Eric Correia and Corey Lane along with Honorary pallbearer Paul Lane brought Gladys to her final resting place at St. Patrick Cemetery.
