Gladys M. (O'Connell) St. Michel, 80, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022, at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River, MA, after a short illness. She was the daughter of Daniel and Esther (Perry) O'Connell. She lived in Tiverton, RI, and Fall River, MA, her entire life.

A graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School in Fall River, she received her Bachelor's Degree from UMass-Dartmouth, formerly Southeastern Mass University. In 1989, she received her Master's Degree from Rhode Island College. She worked as a Microbiologist at St. Joseph's Hospital, Our Lady of Fatima in North Providence, including work as a member of the faculty of their Nursing School, for over thirty years before retiring in 2004.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents, her sister Kathleen Hawkins formerly of Columbia, CT, and her daughter Carolyn Jean St. Michel formerly of Tiverton and Newport, RI. She is survived by her son Edward St. Michel and his wife Jeanne, of Warwick, RI, and numerous extended family. Over the last few years, she formed a strong relationship with her nurse aide, Jessica Sherry, of Fall River, MA.  Gladys, her son, and her daughter-in-law considered Jessica a member of her family. Her assistance was invaluable.

A former communicant of Holy Ghost Parish in Tiverton, Gladys enjoyed family gatherings, the Red Sox, reading, and her strong political beliefs. She traveled frequently with her sister Kathleen, including trips to London, Paris, the Caribbean and Virgin Islands.

Private arrangements were with the Silva-Faria Funeral Home.
