Gustave Mattos, the well-regarded owner of Gustave Mattos Electric Company passed away suddenly at his home at the age of 85 on September 5, 2020. Gus resided in Somerset and worked in Fall River all his life.   He was an active member of the community never yielding to the rheumatoid arthritis that plagued him most of his adult life. Gus continued to run his electrical company and was fortunate to have dedicated long-term loyal employees.

Gus's life work was providing for his family and doing the electrical work he loved. He is the son of the late Gustave V. and Dorothy (Fennelly) Mattos. Gus married and was devoted to his high school sweetheart Jean Lenart for 64 years. He also leaves two daughters, Cindy Barry and her husband John of Marshfield, and Susan Roche and her husband David of Omaha Nebraska. He adored his four granddaughters, Meaghan Roche and husband Joe Murphy of Chicago, Kelly Roche and partner Chad Cunningham, Emily Roche Nuss and husband Jared, and Dana Roche Dobrovolny and husband Zach all of Omaha.  He also leaves two sisters, Gwendoyln Haggerty and Nancy Lavoie, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Stuart Mattos and June Metcalf.

Gus and Jean took many trips creating lasting memories, played golf, worked on their home and landscaping their yard, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Gus was lucky to have a career that he loved and in his 69 years as an electrician he worked in many homes in the local area. He also worked in every mill in Fall River, the Somerset Schools, and many other local businesses. His life goal of working until ninety was missed by only 5 years.

He will be dearly missed by not only his family, but his friends and long-time clients. Due to current conditions, Gus's services were private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice.
