Helen (Pereira) Moniz, 93, formerly of Rockdale Avenue in New Bedford, died Wednesday after a long illness. She was the widow of Manuel Moniz, Jr. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Caetano Pereira and the late Maria (Brum) Caetano Pereira. She moved to Pilar Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores as a child, returning to New Bedford at the age of 17. She then worked at the former Mass Shirt Company until her retirement in 1976. A devoted wife to her late husband, Manny, she took great pride in their home and made the best sweetbread ever. She leaves a daughter, Mary Elaine Moniz of Hixson, TN, a sister, Violante Mello of Fall River, two sisters-in-law, Idalina and Leonilde Pereira both of Sao Miguel, several nieces and nephews. Helen was also the sister of the late Manuel, Joao, Jose and Antonio Pereira, Mary Rodrigues, Maria Batista and Balbina Fernanda Medeiros. Her Funeral Mass, celebrated by Farther Brian Albino, was offered on Saturday (12/1) in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fall River. Committal services followed at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Mello, Steve Mello, John Pereira, David Mello, Jerry Perry and Paul Mello.
