Obituary

Helena Goncalo, 94, of Fall River and wife of the late Joao Goncalo, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Revolution Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Born in Ajuda da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Luis Jose Vasconcelos and the late Maria dos Anjos (Melo) Vasconcelos.

Prior to her retirement, she was a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. Helena was a very hard worker, a faithful parishioner of Espirito Santo Church and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Society. She also enjoyed cooking for the holidays, her trips to the casino, and traveling to such places as Israel, Europe, and the Azores. But most notably, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who relished the time she spent with all her family.

She leaves: her four children, Nisalda Pimentel and her husband, Carlos, Gervasio "Jeff"Goncalo and his wife, Marianna, both of Fall River, Goretti Silva and her husband, Bruno, of Swansea, and Ana Santos and her husband, George, of Westport; her six grandchildren, Jennifer Lopes, Michelle Clark, Kelly Krzewick, Jason Goncalo, Aimee Raynard, and Kevin Pimentel; her twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Gilda Ferreira of Swansea; her sisters-in-law, Deolinda Vasconcelos, Barbara Pereira, and Belmira Gonsalves; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Goretti and Rita Suzana Goncalo, grandmother of the late Adam Luz, and sister of the late Maria Miranda and Luis Vasconcelos.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 12th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
