Hilda F. Chadinha, 86, a native of Fall River, died on Monday at the JML Care Center in Falmouth. She died peacefully after a long courageously fought battle with diabetes and heart disease. She always showed a determination and spunk to survive through many adversities. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Maria (Rocha) Ferreira. She moved to the Cape several years ago to be closer to her daughter. A 1940 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, she was employed for many years at the former Lamport Co., and went on to work at the former Louis Hand Company. Hilda was the widow of George R. Chadinha, mother of Michael G. Chadinha (wife-Susan) of Swansea and Paula J. Tucker (husband-Ted) of Falmouth; grandmother of Matthew M., Michael J. and Andrea L. Chadinha, Lauren E., Caitlin C. and Benjamin J. Tucker; and sister of the late Silvino and Edward Ferreira and Alice Ponte. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and her extended family at the JML Care Center, which she called home for the last 13 years. A very active resident, she was the longstanding president of the Resident Council, a position which she was repeatedly elected to. She was greatly loved and cared for by staff and fellow residents. Her Funeral Msss was offered on Friday (6/20) in St Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers were her grandchildren with Lauren delivering an eloquent eulogy. Cremation followed.
