Hortense M. (Silva) Silvia, of Somerset, widow of John Silvia, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the age of ninety-one. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Maria and Jose Silva. She graduated 5 ^th in her class from BMC Durfee, Class of 1945, and attended Pembroke College in Brown University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an accountant and school teacher. A devout Catholic, Hortense was a parishioner of St. John of God Church of Somerset for over fifty years. Mrs. Silvia was beloved by family and friends for her many unselfish acts, especially her cooking.  She leaves: three sons, John Silvia, Jr., Jeffrey Silvia, both of Somerset and Atty Jerald Silvia and his wife Laurie of Dighton; nine grandchildren, John R. Silvia, Dr. James E. Silvia, Justin A. Silvia, Jeffrey D. Silvia, Jared J. Silvia, Jacob N. Silvia, Jillian M. Silvia, Lindsey J. Silvia and Joshua E. Silvia; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sibling of Raymond Silva and Madeline D'Ambrosio. She was also the sister of the late Jose Silva, Irma Mello, and Mary Ladeira. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, December  22nd, in St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at St Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
