Ida Medeiros Rioux, 87, of Fall River, MA passed away in her home on Friday, October 25, 2019. Her life was full of family, faith, food, and love.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald Rioux, and their four children and their families: Dr. Stephen Rioux and wife Susan of Scarborough, ME, Dr. David Rioux and wife Catherine of Machias, ME, Paul Rioux of Fall River, MA, and Barbara Rioux Vye and husband David of Newburyport, MA. Ida and Donald were blessed with ten grandchildren: Luke Rioux and wife Cary Phoenix of Yarmouth, ME, Lauren Rioux and husband Sten Havumaki of Scarborough, ME, Mikaela Rioux of San Francisco, Brenton Rioux and partner Amy Downer of Hollis, ME, Cicelea Rioux of Hebron, CT, Clayton and Maxwell Vye of Denver, CO, Margaux Rioux of Boston, MA, Thomas Rioux of Burlington, VT, Julian Vye of Boston, MA and three great grandchildren: Charlotte and Axel Rioux of Yarmouth and Oscar Havumaki of Scarborough.

A daughter of the late Francisco and Iria Sousa Medeiros, Ida was one of six siblings. Her brothers and sisters, their spouses and her nieces and nephews provided Ida with joy and support throughout the years: Daniel Medeiros (deceased) and wife Delores, Noema Raposo and husband Michael (deceased), Leonard Medeiros and wife Delores, Frank Medeiros, and Lydia Calise and husband Joseph. Ida was also surrounded with love from a very loving and large Rioux family.

Ida pursued many interests: she was an avid reader, loved to travel, to cook for and with her family, and was always involved in her church community. A Marian Medal recipient, Ida also served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector. Ida was an advocate for education: she taught in the Fall River public schools and continued hers throughout her life.

She earned her Associates Degree from Bristol Community College, a Bachelor Degree from UMass Dartmouth, and a Master Degree in Bilingual Special Education from Bridgewater State College. Ida continually expressed her gratitude for expanding her mind and heart through her education, and encouraged everyone to better themselves through learning.

Ida was classy, kind, practical, fiercely loyal, strong, and always kept her hands busy. Her love provided comfort and guidance for everyone who was fortunate to know her. Ida's family would like to express appreciation for the tender care provided by Southcoast Hospice.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 30th, in St Joseph Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
