Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ilda R. Carvalho, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose love, faith, and devotion to family touched generations.

Born in Ajuda da Bretanha, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Ilda immigrated to the United States in 1974 in search of a better life for her family. She was the beloved wife of the late António P. Carvalho and the cherished daughter of the late Luís Raposo and Maria da Estrela Raposo.

Ilda worked for Frito-Lay and Rothschild, retiring in 1989. While she took pride in her work, her greatest joy was always her family.

A woman of deep faith, Ilda was devoted to her religion and lived her life guided by kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially during the Sunday lunches she lovingly prepared for her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter, stories, and the aroma of home-cooked meals.

Blessed with a long and beautiful life, Ilda was just shy of celebrating her 100th birthday. Nearly a century of love, sacrifice, faith, and devotion to her family, her life was a testament to strength, resilience, and grace. The countless lives she touched and the family she helped build stand as her greatest legacy.

She is survived by her children: Lucilia Pereira and her husband, José Pereira, of Hamilton, Ontario; Eva Serpa and her husband, José Serpa, of Fall River, Massachusetts; Filomena Oliveira and her husband, José Carvalho, of Hamilton, Ontario; José A. Carvalho and his wife, Teresa Carvalho, of Fall River, Massachusetts; Leonardo Carvalho and his wife, Dora Carvalho, of Fall River, Massachusetts; Paulina Medeiros and her husband, Dennis Medeiros, of Fall River, Massachusetts; Deolinda Carvalho of Fall River, Massachusetts; Gilberto Carvalho of Florida; Ricardo Carvalho and his wife, Rania Carvalho, of Tiverton, Rhode Island; and Teresa Sousa and her husband, Daniel Sousa, of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Leonor Moniz, and is survived by her son-in-law, Luís Moniz, of Fall River, Massachusetts.

She is also survived by her brother, Evaristo Raposo of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and her sister, Deolinda Viveiros of Fall River, Massachusetts. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Maria Ferreira, Adelaide Arruda, Margarida Costa, Manuel Raposo, José Raposo, and David Raposo.

Ilda's greatest pride and joy was her family. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy through her 33 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her unconditional love, guidance, and support.

She loved spending time with her family and took immense pride in watching it grow through the generations. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, was a devoted fan of classic Bruce Lee movies, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy professional wrestling. Known for her quick wit, playful sense of humor, and endless stories, she had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and feel at home. Her warmth, strength, and joyful spirit made every family gathering a cherished memory.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and the example of faith, resilience, and unconditional love that she set for all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Her love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, June 29th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River.
