Irene S. Carvalho, 94, of Fall River, wife of the late Manuel Pimental Carvalho, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, August 21, 2020 in the comforts of her home.

Born in Ajuda, Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Remigio Fernandes and the late Helena da Ressureicao Sousa.

Prior to her retirement, she worked in the local textile industry as a machine operator for many years and was also a member of the Ladies International Garment Workers Union. A long-time parishioner of Espírito Santo Church, she was also a member of Our Lady of The Light Society. She  loved cooking and baking, especially her amazing massa and biscoits, and feeding people. Irene very much enjoyed word-search puzzles, watching The Price Is Right, and chatting on the phone with her cousins. But most important to her was spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she referred to as "the light of her life". Irene's family would like to acknowledge with gratitude her caregivers, Mimi Rorato, Adelia Pasada, and Ana Sousa, for the compassion and excellent care that was provided by them during her final days.

She leaves: her loving daughter, Maria F. Torres and her husband, Louis, of Fall River; her three grandchildren, Stephanie Resendes and her husband, Tommy, Stacy Crowley and her husband, Daniel, and Bryan Torres and his wife, Katie; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Crowley, Emelin Borges, and Hudson Torres; two brothers, Jose Sousa (late wife, Lourdes) of Somerset, and Antonio Fernandes and his wife, Maria, of Canada; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria Helena Fernandes and the late Manuel Sousa.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 26th, in Espírito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
