Irene Elizabeth Fortuna, age 85, of North Augusta, South Carolina, formerly of Somerset, passed away at home on Friday, March 4th, 2011. She was the widow of John M. Fortuna. Born in Assonet, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Antone P. Medeiros and the late Melinda M. (Ferry) Medeiros. A resident of Somerset, Massachusetts, for over fifty years, she moved to South Carolina four years ago to live with her son. Irene was a former resident of Shawomet Avenue in Somerset and was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Church. She was also a former communicant at St. Patrick's Church in Somerset. Surviving family members include her two sons, John A. Fortuna of North Augusta, SC, and Barry J. Fortuna of Somerset, a sister, Lorraine Toomey of Somerset, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Louis Medeiros, Tony Medeiros, Joseph Medeiros, and Rosalind Duffy. Her funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 12th, at St. Thomas More Church.
