Irene (Pacheco) Rego, 96, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River, widow of John V. Rego, passed away at Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center on Sunday, November 1, 2020, after an illness related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Pacheco and the late Maria (Mello) Pacheco and had lived in Fall River for most of her life.
She worked in the local textile industry for many years, retiring from the former Nancy Dress Co., and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("I.L.G.W.U.") now called UNITE. Irene loved cooking up a feast and having the family over to celebrate the Holidays. She also enjoyed sewing and was a former Sacred Heart Church parishioner.
She is survived by: two children, Beverly A. Santos of Swansea and John B. Rego (wife Barbara) of Somerset; four grandchildren, Christy Peterson, Jason Santos, Kellie Gonsalves, and Bryan Rego; nine great grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Michaela, Jayden, Khloe, Aliyah, Marcus, Bridget, and Nolan; and several nieces and nephews. She was also a grandmother of the late Justin Paul Santos; and sister of the late Joseph Pacheco and Evelyn Feijo.
Due to the COVID pandemic, her cremation arrangements were private. When the current crisis allows, her family is planning to celebrate her life with a Memorial Funeral Mass, the details of which will be announced here.
Being unable, because of this pandemic, to make in-person expressions of kindness and support, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!
