Irene Serpa, 96, wife of the late Manuel R. Serpa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday after a long illness. Born in Sao Caetano on the Island of Pico, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Envegelho and Maria Brum. She worked as a folder at Rex Linen Supply for many years prior to her retirement. She loved making quilts, crocheting, and knitting. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene dedicated her life to her loving family. She was also a member of Irmandade do Devino Espírito Santo do Pico. She leaves: her children, Bruno R. Serpa (wife Leonor), Hermenegilda Leal (husband Jose), Martha Machado (husband Franklim), Alice Paulo (husband Justin), Albertina Dos Vais (husband Tiberio), all of Fall River, Laura Serpa (late husband Joao Leal) of Pico, Azores, and Mary Medeiros (husband Daniel) of Tiverton; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Conceicao Brum Areia and Maria Fatima Serpa, grandmother of the late Carlos, Joao, and Cristina Leal, and sister of the late Laura, Balbina, Maria, Manuel, and Jose. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 12th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
