Irene Sweet, 88, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River, passed away on Saturday. Widow of Mitchell P. Sweet. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Bento & Mary (Ramos) Mello. She worked at McWhirr's Department Store for several years and retired from the Child Development Center. Survivors include her son, Mitchell P. Sweet, Jr. of Somerset; daughters, Sandra Maccarone of Swansea and Paula Barber of Johnston, RI; grandchildren, Scott Maccarone, Gordon Barber, Jillian Barber and Mitchell P. Sweet, III; great grandchildren, Logan and Hannah Maccarone; and several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Alfred Mello and Hilda Suite. Her Funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, February 11, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church followed by her committal at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
