Obituary

Jacinto M. Pereira, 91, of Davis Street in Fall River, died at home peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2007. He was the husband of the late Luiza F. (Raposo) Pereira. Born in the village of Feteiras do Sul, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel M. Pereira and the late Filomena Pereira. After residing in the Azores for fifty years, he immigrated to this city in 1966 and was employed for many years as a machinist at Coppercraft Guild in Taunton, MA, until his retirement in 1979. A cancer survivor for thirty years, Mr. Pereira was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River and a member of the Holy Name Society. Surviving family members include five sons, Gilbert Pereira and Moses Pereira, both of Fall River, Jesse Pereira of Westport, MA, Luis Pereira of Swansea, MA, and Joseph Pereira of Miami, Florida, five daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Zulmira) Santos, Mrs. Ramiro (Gilda) Martins, Mrs. John (Lucy) Torres and Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Cabral, all of Fall River, and Mrs. Albert (Celia) Coelho of Spring Hill, Florida. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was held Saturday, October 13th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by a committal service at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Louie Martins, Joseph Pereira, Gilbert Pereira, John Torres, Joshua Pereira, Jaime Pereira, Michael Coelho and George Pereira.
