Obituary

Jaime R. de Melo, 76, of Fall River, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 5th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Ana Maria (Resendes) de Melo, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Vila Do Porto, Santa Maria, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel & Maria Dos Dores (Raposo) de Melo. Jaime was a Veteran of the Portuguese Army, stationed in Angola. Locally, he worked for both the former O'Day Boat and the former Duro Textiles.

A passionate soccer fan, he loved watching Sporting matches with his brother Antônio Gil. Jaime was known for having a strong zest for life, no matter what he was ever going through. He never took for granted the simple pleasures in life and above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandsons, Jack and Luca.

His days usually included routine Dunkin' coffee runs - and sometimes even the rare trip to Starbucks when he'd allow his sons to splurge. He could often be found enjoying his favorite breakfast at Newport Creamery or the exquisite food at Caldeira's but nothing ever came close to the amazing food made with love by his wife.

In his younger years, he was an avid gardener with a huge green thumb and when he was in good health, he really loved an ice cold Budweiser. He was also very proud of his roots and visited Santa Maria as often as he could.

Besides his loving wife Ana, Jaime was also survived by his sons, Derrick DeMelo and his wife Jessica of Fall River, and Ryan DeMelo and his wife Jillian of Weymouth; his grandsons, Jack and Luca DeMelo; brothers, João de Melo and his wife Maria of Hartford, CT, and Antônio Gil Tavares and his wife Luísa of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Manuel de Melo and his wife Rosa, Adelaide Sousa and her husband Antônio, Helena Nogueira and her husband Carlos, and José de Melo and his wife Maria.

Following a private cremation, relatives and friends are invited to gather at Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St., on Saturday, August 19th from 3-6pm where his funeral service will take place at 5:30pm.
