Obituary

James J. Cusson, 52, of Fall River, fiancé of Michelle Fortier, passed away on July 10, 2021, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in Attleboro, he was a son of the late Henry Joseph Cusson and the late Sandra Elizabeth (Reynolds) Cusson, and stepson of Geraldine (Travassos) Cusson of Fall River. He resided in Fall River for the past 20 years.

In his younger days, he had worked as a roofer, then for several years at A. J. Wright, then at Somerset Fence installing fences. He then was employed for a number of years as a landscaper, with The Cutting Edge and TM Construction Services until suffering a stroke in 2013, a short time after which he was diagnosed with Lupus and retired early due to disability.

He used to love shooting pool and had his own pool cue. He also loved listening to the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Queensrÿche. James was good at trivia and enjoyed watching Jeopardy every night. He also enjoyed The Office , Parks & Recreation , old Match Game reruns, and Star Wars movies. Another favorite pastime of his was sitting in his rocking chair on the porch.

He was a big fan of the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots. Also a Civil War buff, James enjoyed watching films, reading books and collecting historical data on the subject – he could rattle off facts on the Civil War at the drop of a hat.

Funny, clever, smart, kind, and generous, James was a hard worker and a good man who was loved by everyone who knew him. He was great to be around and had a quick-witted, terrific sense of humor.

Besides his fiancée and stepmother, he is survived by: three half-siblings, Cynthia Lea of Pawtucket, RI, Keith Amaral-Cusson of Arkansas, and Kim Barron of Sandusky, Ohio; a step-brother, Michael Affonso of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the half-brother of the late Brian Cusson.

His funeral arrangements were private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in James' memory to the American Battlefield Trust, 1156 15 th Street NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20005; 888-606-1400; or Help Save Battlefields | American Battlefield Trust
