James Frederick
Flavin
d. Jun 5, 2024
James Frederick Flavin, 86, of Fall River, formerly of Somerville, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, after a brief illness. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late John Joseph Flavin and the late Caroline A. (Nelson) Flavin.
In his younger days, James had worked for about ten years as an insurance agent with Kemper Insurance. He was then employed for over 30 years in men's clothing sales and fine tailoring at Filene's.
A member of Boston Prime Timers, and longtime patron of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, James was a big supporter of the arts and enjoyed engaging in cultural and social activities to foster community enrichment. Obsessed with Hollywood and the movie industry, he positively loved the theater and often attended plays and musicals in New York City. James was also an avid reader who relished travelling extensively – to such locales as Spain, France, England, Italy, and especially Greece.
He is survived by niece Carol A. Cahill (husband Kevin) of Foxboro and many nephews and nieces, and his good friend and caregiver, Bert J. Barao (wife Dawn) of Fall River. James was predeceased by all his siblings: Robert F. Flavin, Mary Walsh, Anna Rawley and John J. Flavin.
James was buried with a private committal service on June 12th, at his family's plot at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in James' memory to Boston Prime Timers, Inc. 398 Columbus Ave. #291, Boston, MA 02116; 617-286-4440; http://bostonpt.org.
