James C. Gonsalves, Sr., age 73, peacefully entered into rest surrounded by family and friends on Monday, at the home of his daughter in Fall River. He was the husband of Maria F. (Mota) Gonsalves. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel Gonsalves and the late Bella (Perry) Gonsalves. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was employed as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Gonsalves was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Fall River. In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by three daughters, Margaret Mary Frenette of Newport, RI, Emma Griffith of Belmont, New York, and Mary Coutinho of Fall River, a brother, Tony Gonsalves of Newport, RI, two sisters, Agnes White of Tiverton, RI, and Mary McKay of Fall River. He also leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Richard Chretien at Notre Dame Church. Pallbearers were Brandon Coutinho, Michael Gonsalves, Eric DeAndrade, Frank Frenette, Gregory Mendes and Michael Griffith. His committal service was held at Notre Dame Cemetery.
