James L. Soares, 64, of Fall River, husband of Elaine (LaFrance) Soares, died Monday unexpectedly at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, son of the late James & Ernestine (Bravo) Soares, he resided in Fall River most of his life. Proprietor for 20 years of Jimmie's Restaurant & Lounge formerly of Brayton Ave, he also worked as a custodian with the Fall River school department for 15 years. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a life member of VFW Post #5392 and an active member of Amvets Post #60, serving on its finance board. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed snow skiing and salt-water boating. Besides his wife, he leaves: a son, James L. Soares Jr. & his wife, Julie, of E. Freetown; siblings, Madeline M. Faria of Fall River, Maureen Hernandez of Laughlin, NV, John M. & Maurice K. Soares both of Portsmouth, RI, and Carl E. Soares of No. Kingstown, RI; granddaughters, Abigail & Megan; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Saturday (12/26) in St. Mary's Cathedral on Spring St in Fall River. As per his wishes, he was cremated. Remembrances may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
