James
Souza
d. Sep 13, 2024
James Souza, 72, of Fall River, husband of Patricia M. (Mello) Souza, passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, September 13, 2024, after an illness. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late James Souza and the late Virginia (Ferris) Plante.
Jimmy worked at Citizens for Citizens for over 30 years. He was the Director of the Foster Grandparent and Senior Aide programs. He was actively involved in politics, and he was on the Fall River Traffic Commission. Jimmy was also a sports fan, and he volunteered as a baseball coach for children for many years. Jimmy was the coach that took the children after each game win or lose to celebrate with ice cream. He absolutely loved and enjoyed working in his yard, planting flowers and maintaining a garden. After retiring he spent twenty-four-seven with his best friend and companion, his dog, Twiggy.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by: two children, Melissa P. Aguiar (husband Michael) of Fall River and Christopher J. Souza (wife Rebecca) of Bennington, VT; three sisters, Sharon, Nancy, and Karen; two grandchildren, Brandon Langton and Adelaide Aguiar; many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his sister, Carol.
The family expresses grateful appreciation to the nursing staff at St. Anne's Hospital, as well as to Dr. Reeder & Dr. Rizack, all of whom were extremely compassionate, comforting, and supportive to both Jimmy and his family. Sincere thanks also go out to the incredible Accent Hospice Staff that lent moral support and comfort to Jimmy and his family during this difficult time.
His wife, Pat, especially wishes to thank the staff at Citizens for Citizens, Inc., as she feels she would never have been able to care for Jimmy without the support and understanding she received from them over the past six months.
Following a private cremation, a service was held on Sunday, September 29, during a visitation period in our Fall River Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in James's memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284; 800-525-4669; www.dana-farber.org/gift OR St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of health concerns or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website (www.silvafaria.com) and not through a third party.
