Jason Yarrow Shields, 39, of Narragansett, passed away on Wednesday, May 27th. He is survived by his father, Michael Shields and his partner Carol Tedesco of Key West, FL; his mother, Barbara Oliver Shields of Gainesville, FL; his brother Shepard McCallum and his fiancée, Sena Clara Creston of Richland, WA; sister-in-law Jenny McClay and his niece Naiya McClay of Narberth, PA; his uncles, John Oliver of Gainesville, FL and Michael Oliver of Satellite Beach, FL.

A Gainesville, FL - born on the Solstice - water child, you always knew where he was, hearing him joyously laughing at any moment, or seen climbing the giant live oaks, swaying and singing in the branches, or swimming in the Florida springs and rivers, and Atlantic Ocean. His love for being on the water was a constant.

He attended the Dayspring Waldorf School, Gainesville, FL, before moving to the Green Meadow Waldorf School, Chestnut Ridge, NY, Class of 1994, where he was athletic, excelling in baseball, basketball, and soccer, played the trombone, and performed in school theater productions. He was always fun and a joy to be with, a sensitive and soulful, caring person, and his presence will continue on in the lives of those many hearts he touched.

He first discovered summertime life on Block Island in 1987, and in 1991 with his family, became embedded with the opening of the first island coffee house, Juice 'n Java, and as he grew, living and working year-round on Block Island, and the mainland, in the construction trades.

Relatives and friends gathered on Saturday, June 6th at our Fall River Chapel, where his funeral service took place. Donations in his memory can be sent to Centennial Bank, 1229 Simonton St., Key West, FL, 33040, made to Jason Shields Fund.
