Jesuina Conroy, 94, of Portsmouth, RI, widow of Francis M. Conroy, former widow of Joseph Cabral, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Arruda and the late Mariana (Souza) Arruda.
Prior to her retirement, Jesuina was employed as a seamstress for many years in the local garment industry and maintained membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("ILGWU") now called UNITE. In her retiring years, she worked as a lunch lady in the Little Compton school system.
Jesuina was always active in support of The Salvation Army and had also volunteered for a time at the Tiverton Library. More than anything she adored her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by: three children, Joseph M. Cabral (wife Kathleen) of Somerset, Marie Elena Cashman (husband Bradford) of Dartmouth, and Dorothy "Dee" Dowty (husband John Frizzell) of Portsmouth, RI; five grandchildren, Sarah Martins, Joseph J. Cabral, Joshua Cabral, Erin Cashman, and Bradford "JR" Dowty; eight great grandchildren, Hailey, Tyler, Isabella, Declan, Hazel, Jaxson, Colton, and Nia; and many nieces and nephews. Jesuina was predeceased by all her siblings, Helen Aguiar, Delores Moreira, Mary Arruda, Rose Aguiar, Manuel, Joseph, Louis, John, & Antone Arruda.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, August 14th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River followed by her committal at Pocasset Hill Cemetery in Tiverton, RI.
