Obituary

Jesuina R. Papoula, 94, of Fall River, wife of the late Jose Papoula, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in the comforts of her home following a long illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco Resendes and the late Maria Julia Almeida.

Prior to her retirement, she worked in the local textile industry as a sewing machine operator for many years. She loved cooking and baking for her family, crocheting, knitting, and traveling to such places as the Bahamas, New Hampshire, Florida, and back to her homeland in the Azores to visit family. Most notably, Jesuina was a devout Catholic, attended Mass faithfully, prayed the rosary daily, and graciously volunteered for many church events over the years. She was also a long-time member of the Ladies of the Rosary.

She leaves her loving children, Luisa Lopes and her husband, Daciel, of Swansea, Manuel Papoula and his wife, Tina, of Westport, and Robert Papoula of Fall River; her grandchildren, Adam Lopes, Melissa Botelho (husband, Eric), and Monica Papoula; one great-granddaughter, Myka Botelho; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Al Papoula, grandmother of the late Joshua Papoula, and sister of the late Honorina Marcelino, Manuel Pimentel, Mariano Resendes, Joao Resendes, Luis Resendes, Venancio Resendes, Francisco Resendes, and Duarte Resendes.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 29th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal and burial alongside her late husband and son in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
