Joan Catherine (Hart) Benevides, 79, of Kay Street, Somerset, died Monday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert P. Benevides, Sr.
Born in Fall River, Mrs. Benevides was the daughter of the late James D. and Angela (Greene) Hart. She lived in Somerset for 47 years. She graduated with highest honors from Sacred Heart Academy in 1946 and attended Thibodeaus Business School before working as a business manager at Stafford's Insurance until 1955. She was a member of St. Thomas More Parish, Somerset. Mrs. Benevides is survived by a daughter, Jo-Ann Melchert (husband Jack), of Somerset; two sons, Peter J. Benevides of Somerset and Robert P. Benevides, Jr. (wife Alyce) of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, John C. Hart and Joseph Hart of Fall River; two grandchildren, Victoria Rose and Jonathan Robert Melchert, and several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, January 16th in St. Thomas More Church. Committal services followed at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Somerset. Pallbearers were Robert Benevides, Jr. and his wife, Alyce, Jack and Jonathan Melchert, Edward Toulan, Jr. and Kyle Fontaine.
