Joana Da Conceicao (Pereira) Duarte passed away and went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2021, at the age of 93. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Duarte, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage and together raised eleven children.
She was born in Sao Vicente Ferreira, Sao Miguel, Azores and lived there for many years before emigrating to the United States in 1966 to reside in Fall River. Joana was the daughter of the late Antonio Joaquin Pereira and the late Maria de Lourdes Correia.
She worked at Providence Pile Fabric, but after her youngest was born she left work to raise her family. Joana truly loved children and not only did she raise her own, but also devoted most of her time to helping others raise their children as well.
Joana enjoyed life, traveling, sewing and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her children, Ralph Duarte (wife Elza), Arthur Duarte (wife Geraldine), Connie Vasconcelos (husband Carlos) all of Fall River, Agnes Bizarria (husband Jose) of Dartmouth, Lucy Narciso (husband John) of Fall River, Natalie Botelho (husband Luis) of Taunton, Joanne Raposo (husband Jorge) of Fall River, Altino Duarte (fiancée Anna) of Westport, Joseph Duarte of Swansea, Fatima Dolan of Fall River and Michael Duarte (wife Michelle) of Swansea.
She is also survived by her beloved twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews. Joana was predeceased by her precious son Emanuel Duarte, daughter-in-law Lori Duarte, and brothers Jose, Manuel, Agostinho, Guilherme, Fernando and sisters Maria, Almorinda, Maria De Lourdes. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved cat, Nikki.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, November 2nd, at St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
