Fall River

Obituary

Joao F. Aguiar, 70, of Fall River, husband of Palmira (Ricardo) Aguiar, passed away peacefully on Saturday after a long illness. Born in Santa Barbara, St.Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antone Mateus and Isabel (Fonceca) Aguiar. John was the former owner of the Esquire Cafe. He loved to golf, travel, socialize, and dance to the "oldies but goodies". He also enjoyed gardening, making his own wine, playing cards and pinnacle, and going to the beaches of Newport. He was a former member of the Sons of Italy, and an active member of Don Carlos and St. Anthony's Band Club. But most important to him was family, particularly his grandchildren. Besides his wife of forty-eight years, he leaves: his children, John W. Aguiar and his fiancé Rachel of Westport, Diane Cummings of Millville, and Rachel Usher and her husband Keith of Mendon; seven grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Aguiar, Corine and Connor Cummings, Brady, Sienna, and Benjamin Usher; a sister, Maria Medeiros and her husband John of Fall River; brothers, Jesse Aguiar and his wife Belmira of Somerset, Caesar Aguiar and his wife Denise of Taunton, William Aguiar and his wife Goretti of  Fall River, and Gilbert Aguiar of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antone Aguiar and Jose Aguiar and owner of the late Ronnie, his cherished canine. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 11th, in St. Bernadette Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
