Joao C. Arruda, 59, of Fall River, husband of Theresa (Amaral) Arruda, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of Jose and Maria Natalia (Medeiros) Arruda. A very talented mason, he worked in the local construction industry for many years prior to his illness. An avid Sporting fan, Joao was also a hard worker, a good provider and loved spending quality time with his loving family. He also enjoyed making his own wine and cooking fish, and, especially, crabs. Besides his parents and his wife of forty years, he leaves: his children, Stacey Pavao and her husband, Peter, of Fall River, and John "J.J." Arruda, Jr., of Fall River; six grandchildren, Oceanna J. Pavao, Livia J. Pavao, Bransen J. Arruda, Layla R. Arruda, Mia J. Pavao, and Thomas J. Pavao; his siblings, Serafin Arruda and his wife, Rachel, Sergio Arruda and his fiance, Terry, Joseph "Joey" Arruda, Marylou Martins, Natalia Oliveira, Lucia Costa and her husband, Joao, all of Fall River, Antonio Arruda and his wife, Betty, of Florida, Theodora Gabriel and Lorraine Arruda and her fiancé, James Smith, both of Swansea, Maria Lanosa and her husband, Jason, of Somerset, and Alcina Lewis and her husband, Jeremy, of Tiverton; his mother-in-law, Alice Amaral; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Paul Arruda. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, August 5th, in Espírito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
