Joao L. Rego, 84, of Fall River, husband of Maria J. (Ribeiro) Rego, passed away on Thursday after a long illness. Born in Lagao, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Angelo and Maria doRosario (Borges) Rego. Prior to his retirement he worked as a laborer for local landscape companies. He enjoyed gardening, taking long walks, and making his own wine. He also loved watching soccer, hockey, and wrestling. A devout Catholic, he faithfully attended Sunday masses and participated in many religious processions over the years. Besides his wife of fifty-nine years, he leaves his children: Joao G. Rego and his wife Diane, Paul M. Rego, and Julieta Sales and her husband Manuel of Fall River, Aires M. Rego and his wife Mary of North Dighton, and Ana I. Borges of New Bedford; ten grandchildren: Ricardo Sales, Melissa Rego, Joshua Rego, Elizabeth Sales, Kayla Borges, Justin Borges, Paul M. Rego, Jr., Brian Rego, Erin Rego, and Benjamin Rego; three great-grandchildren: Nicolas Riccitelli, Emily Sales, and Caroline Sales; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Julieta Varao and Leontina Rego. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 17th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
