Joao Leite, 87, of Westport, husband of the late Maria E.S. (Barbosa) Leite, died on January 2, 2009 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Maia St. Michael Azores, son of the late Angelina (Botelho) & Antonio Carreiro Leite, he emigrated to Fall River in 1972. Mr. Leite worked in the local textile industry and also at the former Rosemar Silver Co. –retiring in 1983. Father of Maria G. Vasconcelos and Vasco M. Leite both of Westport, Guilherme Carreiro of Fall River, and Joao Leite of Swansea. Brother of Donatilde Medeiros of Lemington Canada, Joana Medeiros Pacheco of Terceira Azores, and 7 predeceased siblings. Grandfather 10, great grandfather 6, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Espirito Santo Church. Pallbearers Tony Santos, John Leite Jr., Chad Braga, Joseph Mecartea and Tyler Rocha brought Joao to his final resting place at Notre Dame Cemetery.
