Joao Da
Rosa Camara
d. Aug 9, 2022
Joao R. Camara, 70, of Fall River, husband of Maria F. (da Costa Correia) Camara, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Manuel & Emilia (da Rosa) da Camara Paiva, he emigrated to Fall River in 1972.
Proprietor of Modern Snack Bar on Alden Street, Joao had also worked for many years with the former Quaker Fabric and was well known for his stucco business. Anyone who knew Joao knew how passionate he was about his business ventures and how he was able to have an idea and bring it to life, especially when it came to his amazing ability to stucco. Joao enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with his friends and colleagues at his business, where he was affectionately known as "Popeye." Most importantly, Joao loved spending time with his family, especially all his grandchildren.
With his desire to always help others and how special his personality and spirit, Joao will be deeply missed.
Besides his wife, of 46 years, he is survived by: two sons, Stephen Camara and Kevin Camara (partner Kim Medeiros) both of Fall River; five grandchildren, Janessa, Ethan, Aiden, Anessia, and Kaius Camara; numerous brothers and sisters (his being one of twenty siblings), including Lurdes Paiva, Gloria Paiva, and Eduardo Paiva all of California, Agostinho Camara and Jose Paiva of St. Michael, and Natalie Ferreira Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the grandfather of the late Janelle "Nelly" Camara.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, August 16th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
