Obituary

John P. Almeida, 67, husband of Patricia (Riley) Almeida, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Gil Almeida and the late Hilda (Santos) Almeida, he emigrated to Fall River in 1960.

He served in the U.S. Army right out of high school and later worked as a truck driver with Borden Remington for many years, prior to his retirement. A loving and caring father and grandfather, John was very active in the raising of his family. He enjoyed coaching in all the numerous team sports that his children participated in; and especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, of 45 years, he is survived by: four children, Joseph Almeida (wife Regina) of Providence, R.I., Shelley Almeida of Fall River, Martin Almeida of Fall River, and Amanda Almeida of Fall River; two siblings, Manny Almeida of Somerset and Maria Desrosiers of Fall River; twelve grandchildren, Joseph, Zachary, Amber, Emily, Lilley, Leah & Tricia (twins), Little John, Andre, Randy, Lex, and Lyra; a great grandson, Makhia; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late John Almeida.

A visitation period was held on Sunday, November 21st, in our Fall River Chapel followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John's memory to the Fall River Boys and Girls Club, 803 Bedford St, Fall River, MA 02723; 508-672-6340; Thomas Chew Memorial Boys Club Inc - 2021 Great Futures Campaign (networkforgood.com)
