John Paul Bernard, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John Bernard, Jr., and the late America Cecilia (Pestana) Bernard. A lifelong resident of Swansea he was a graduate of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. John Paul worked with his father as a service attendant for many years at Bernard's ARCO Station on Robeson Street in Fall River, and also worked as a part time custodian at the Durfee-Buffinton Insurance Agency, also in Fall River. He was an active parishioner of St Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea where he attended Mass daily. In addition to the company of family and friends, John Paul enjoyed walking, reading, crossword puzzles, yard work and watching the Red Sox play. Surviving family members include his sister, Carolyn D. Cote of Fall River, a nephew, Matthew J. Cote of Boston, and a niece, Megan R. Cote of Fall River. He was also the brother of the late Rosemarie Gilliam, and brother-in-law of the late Ronald A. Cote. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea. He was laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Swansea.
