Dr. John C. Carvalho, 95, of Fall River, husband of the late Irene (Machado) Carvalho, passed away on January 16, 2013. Born in Fall River, son of the late Dr. Joseph C. & Adeline (Cavaco) Carvalho. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Holy Cross College, and Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Maryland, he practiced general dentistry for 65 years with his father and then in his own practice on Columbia St. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was Chief of the Dental Staff at St. Anne's Hospital and was on the staff of Union and Truesdale Hospitals (now Charlton Memorial Hospital). Dr. Carvalho was a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and was a life member of the American Dental Society, Massachusetts Dental Society and the Fall River and New Bedford Dental Societies. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Fall River Elks, Quequechan Club, Coimbra Club, Fall River Ski Club, Fall River Country Club, and was a trustee and on the Advisory Board of BayCoast Bank. Dr. Carvalho wintered in Stuart, Florida where he was a member of the Evergreen Golf Club. He enjoyed skiing through his 80s and was an avid golfer. Dr. & Mrs. Carvalho traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and South America. He is survived by his son Michael J Carvalho of Fall River, Provincetown, and Stuart, FL and his partner John E Conroy of Provincetown. He is also survived by his grandchildren Heather Smith of California and Michael Smith and his wife Ashley of Newport, RI and son-in-law Paul Smith of Newport, RI. His daughter Susann predeceased him in 1996. His is survived by his sisters Mary T Carvalho and Alice C Neves of Fall River and Beatrice Carrellas of Middletown, RI. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Name Church. He was laid to rest at St. Patrick Cemetery.
