Obituary

John L. Costa, 56, of Fall River and Tiverton, husband of Gilda (Costa) Costa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January15, 2023, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son, and only child, of Olga Maria (Aguiar Resendes) Costa of Fall River and the late Joao Costa. John emigrated with his family in 1972.  His life was evidence of his commitment to the well-being and happiness of his family.

He was a commercial fisherman who enjoyed his work. Fishing was a labor of love, that brought him much joy. John most loved the time he spent with family. He immensely enjoyed visits with his daughters and grandchildren. His happiness of late included spending time in Florida with his beloved wife of 38 years and his mother. As a husband, son, father, grandfather, uncle or friend, he provided love and laughter. His smile was genuine and he demonstrated kindness to those around him.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by: three children, Jessica Costa (fiancé Shawn Rapoza) of Fall River, Stephanie Crete (husband Joshua) of Tiverton, and Vanessa Plaud (husband Tyler) of Fall River; six grandchildren, Misha, Lillith, Damon, Bryce, Silmera, and Emersyn; and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 19th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
