Obituary

John R. Mello, a lifelong resident of Fall River, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was the beloved son of the late Palmira (Lima) and the late John Mello. He is also preceded in death by his beloved brother Richard Mello and his sister-in-law, Myra Mello.

In his younger years, John found joy in the tranquility of the water, spending countless hours on his boat and enjoying the peaceful solitude of fishing. A man of few words, John expressed his love and dedication to his family and friends through his actions, always present at family gatherings, graduations, birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions. His support, loyalty and devotion to his loved ones were immeasurable.

A skilled boat builder, John dedicated many years to perfecting his craft. He worked at O'Day Boat and Blue Fin Yachts, where he became known for his unmatched craftsmanship. The boats he created were a true reflection of his skill, and they continue to sail as lasting testaments to his legacy.

John had a special fondness for large dogs and was always surrounded by the loyal companionship of his many beloved pets over the years, who brought him immense joy.

John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 50 years, Patricia (Guimar) Mello. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends, all of whom loved him dearly.

He will be missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

following a private cremation, a Memorial Gathering was held on Friday, April 11th in our Fall River Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in John's memory, to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. https://www.michaeljfox.org/ .
