John L. Melo, 63, of Westport, husband of Alda (Pavao) Melo, died Saturday, 5/23/09 at Catholic Memorial Home after a long illness. Born in St. Michael, Azores, son of John & Inez (Arruda) Melo, he emigrated to Fall River in 1955 and lived in Westport for over 30 years. He was a foundry foreman employed at Belcher Corp. of Easton for 38 years until retiring 7 years ago. In addition to maintaining his yard, he enjoyed fishing, hunting & camping. Besides his wife of 41 years, he leaves: children, John, Kim & Tiffany Melo; grandsons, John Guinen and Kdan Furtado; siblings, Manuel Melo, Alice Lourenco, Odilia Andrade & Lucy Earle; several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Steven Melo. Arrangements with Silva-Faria Funeral Home were private according to his wishes.
