Obituary

John Moniz, 95, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, husband of the late Olivia (Arruda) Moniz, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Grace Barker Nursing Home following a long illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Seraphin Moniz and the late Laura (Costa) Moniz.

A United States Army Veteran, he proudly served his Country in the Phillipines during WW II. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Moniz & Sons Hog Farm located in Tiverton, Rhode Island and was a board member of the Rhode Island Farm Bureau.  A strong-willed and hard-working man, he also enjoyed his weekly trips to Pennsylvania with his wife Olivia and visiting the friends he made there.  Most notably, John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with all of his family.

He leaves his children, John Moniz and his wife, Rose, of Fall River, Patricia Neves and her husband, Michael, of Ft. Myers, Florida, Laura Paquette and her husband, Steve, of Westport, Joseph Moniz (Karen), of Tiverton, Elaine Phipps and her husband, George, of Assonet, and Wayne Moniz and his wife, Sue, of Tiverton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Seraphin Moniz of New York; sister-in-law, Jean Moniz of Tiverton; his loyal friend, Al Gonsalves of Tiverton; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Joseph Moniz (infant) and the late Michael Moniz, grandfather of the late Michael Neves, Jr., and brother of the late Mary Roies, Manuel Moniz, Dennis Moniz, Joseph Moniz, Emma Carvalho, and Antone Moniz.

His private funeral was held on Wednesday, May 18th, with a funeral mass at St. Theresa Chuch in Tiverton followed by a private committal at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
