John D. Moreira, of Fall River, 95, husband of the late Alice (Eleuterio) Moreira, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Somerset Ridge Nursing Center. Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Miguel Moreira and the late Mariana (Sousa) Moreira, he emigrated to Fall River in 1966.

He was employed in the local textile industry for many years as a dyer with Roma Chemicals, a division of United Merchants – retiring in 1990. Prior to immigrating from the Azores he had worked as a bus driver for a number of years.

He is survived by: five children, Luisa Medeiros (husband Dennis) of Fall River, Alice Machado (husband Manuel) of Somerset, Michael Moreira (partner Lori Pelletier) of Fall River, John Moreira (wife Brenda) of Dartmouth, and Roy Moreira of Tiverton; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Couto, Roy Machado, Michael Moreira, Madalena DiCorpo, Jennifer Kirby, Adam Moreira, Ashley Carreia, Erica Rebelo, Craig Moreira, and Eric Moreira; fourteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also father-in-law of the late Donna Moreira; and brother of the late Maria Rocha da Ponte, Maria Julia Falcao, and Miguel Moreira.

John's private funeral was held on Monday, August 17th, from our Fall River Chapel with His Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
