Rehoboth
John M. Nunes, Sr., 91, of Rehoboth, husband of the late Mary Lucy (Miranda) Nunes, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at home. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Antonio Maurice Nunes and the late Mariana (Simao) Nunes, he resided in Rehoboth for the past three years, living in Fall River most of his life – formerly of Locust Street.
A welder in the construction industry for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1992, he was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' highway department in bridge maintenance for 20 years. Mr. Nunes was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
An active Espirito Santo Church parishioner, he served as a Eucharistic minister, participated in prison ministry, and was also a longtime member, and past president of its Holy Name Society. John enjoyed recreational bicycle tours, and was an avid deep-sea fisherman.
He is survived by: four children, John M. Nunes, Jr. (wife Lucy) of Swansea, Jason Nunes of Coventry, RI, Rebecca St. Pierre (husband Edgar) of Venice, Florida, and Rachel DeBrum (late husband Horacio "Ray" DeBrum Jr) of Rehoboth; eight grandchildren, Juliane Nunes, Laura Nunes, Angela Silveira, Luke St. Pierre, Jocelyn Nunes, Adam Nunes, Josef DeBrum, and Miranda DeBrum; and several nieces & nephews. He was also a brother of the late Mary Clara Cabral, Emily Perry, Manuel, Joaquim, and Tony Nunes.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, May 15th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.
