Obituary

John Paskowski, age 95, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Juliette (Proulx) Paskowski. Born in Somerset, he was the son of the late Dimian and Anelia (Markoli) Paskowski. A resident of Somerset for most his life, he was employed for many years as a slitter machine operator at J & J Corrugated Box Corp. John was a Veteran of the United States Army and a recipient of the Purple Heart. On November 26, 1943, during WWII, one thousand, one hundred and thirty eight men perished when a British troopship, the HMT Rohna, was attacked from the air and destroyed in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Algeria. John was aboard the ill-fated transport ship that day as a member of the 31st Signal Construction Battalion. In addition to his wife, Juliette, surviving family members include his son John J. Paskowski (wife Carolyn) of Somerset, two brothers, Peter and Stephen Paskowski, both of Somerset, two sisters, Annie Couto and Helen Paskowski, both of Somerset, a granddaughter, Michelle Paskavitch (husband Neil), and three great grandchildren; Arron, Rylee and Emma Paskavitch, all of Somerset, and several nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late Michael, Anthony and Nicholas Paskowski. Funeral Services were private. John was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
